Google Scholar Metrics 2013: nothing new under the sun

Understanding the Performance of Statistical MT Systems: A Linear Regression Framework

We present a framework for the analysis of Machine Translation performance. We use multivariate linear models to determine the impact of a wide range of features on translation performance. Our assumption is that variables that most contribute to predict translation performance are the key to understand the differences between good and bad translations. During training, we learn the regression ...

Performance Behavior Patterns in Author-Level Metrics: A Disciplinary Comparison of Google Scholar Citations, ResearchGate, and ImpactStory

The main goal of this work is to verify the existence of diverse behavior patterns in academic production and impact, both among members of the same scientific community (inter-author variability) and for a single author (intra-author variability), as well as to find out whether this fact affects the correlation among author-level metrics (AutLMs) in disciplinary studies. To do this, two sample...

Assessing and Restoring the Health of Urban Streams in the Puget Sound Basin

Rapid urbanization threatens the biota of streams and rivers around the globe. Efforts to manage urban streams traditionally take an engineering approach focused on stormwater runoff, physical channel condition, and chemical water quality. Our objective was to use the biology of streams—measured with the multimetric benthic index of biological integrity (B-IBI) based on benthic macroinvertebrat...

Validating research performance metrics against peer rankings

A rich and diverse set of potential bibliometric and scientometric predictors of research performance quality and importance are emerging today — from the classic metrics (publication counts, journal impact factors and individual article/author citation counts) to promising new online metrics such as download counts, hub/authority scores and growth/decay chronometrics. In and of themselves, how...
